What Maintenance Does an Air Conditioner Need?
Whether in your home or in any commercial area, the AC machine needs regular maintenance to be running in good form. Some common maintenance tips include – cleaning the air filters so that dust and dirt don’t accumulate on them, checking the ductwork, checking the condenser, checking and cleaning the evaporator coils, ensuring there is no deposition of dust, dirt and debris in the outdoor unit of the machine, unclogging the drainpipe so that there is no buildup of water inside, etc. Along with these, it is imperative to get the air conditioner serviced at regular intervals of time, at least once annually.
How Long Should an Air Conditioner Last?
The average life span of an air conditioner is about 10-15 years. This is with proper care and maintenance and moderate use. However, if you use the machine frequently, almost on a regular basis, and there is no proper servicing and maintenance, it will last for about 8-10 years. Moderate use of the AC improves its longevity almost by 2 times. In many cases, it has been seen that an air conditioner machine has lasted for almost 20-22 years. This is a clear indication that the machine has been serviced and maintained well over the years, and hence, its longevity.
How Often Should You Have Your Air Conditioner Serviced?
There are mixed reactions from experts on this question. However, most of them opine that it is mandatory to get the air conditioner serviced minimum once annually so that it runs in good condition for a long period of time. Generally, dirt and dust tend to accumulate on the air filters and the condensing coils in the machine. During servicing, these are cleaned so that the efficiency and performance of the machine remain in top form. If not serviced, efficiency drops by almost 5% and the percentage keep on increasing. Ideally, the air filters should be changed every month, which you can do on your own.
