Introducing the Bryant Evolution™Air Purifier
What Does the Bryant Evolution™Air Purifier Do?
Testing at the University of Colorado Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering found that the Bryant® Evolution™ air purifier inactivates 99% of coronavirus trapped in the filter. Other third-party testing also concluded that Bryant’s Captures & Kills® technology inactivates 99% of select viruses and bacteria trapped on the filter, such as a common cold virus surrogate, Streptococcus pyogenes and human influenza*.
With every cycle of air that passes through this patented air purifying system, pollen, animal dander, bacteria and other pollutants are trapped and held tightly to the filter. An electrical charge then bursts the cell walls of pathogens it comes in contact with.
The result is that homes with the Evolution air purifier can provide healthier indoor environments. Families can have added peace of mind that their loved ones have a cleaner and healthier home in which to live, learn, work, and play.
How does the Evolution air purifier technology work?
The Captures & Kill® technology that the Evolution air purifier uses is a three-step process.
Step One: Charge
Step Two: Capture
Step Three: Kill
What is the Evolution air purifier technology?
The Evolution air purifier is a whole-home solution that works silently as part of a home’s heating and cooling system, using a filter and electrical charges to remove airborne pathogens, pollen, animal dander and other contaminants. It is a hybrid between an electronic air cleaner and media filter that offers the benefits of a high-voltage electrostatic precipitator and the ease of maintenance of a media filter.
How efficient is this unit’s filtration?
The Evolution air purifier meets Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) 15.** MERV ratings are designated with numbers from 1 to 16. The higher the MERV rating, the better the filter’s performance (percent efficiency) for smaller particles. A MERV rating of 15 requires 85 - 95% efficiency for the smallest particles tested down to 0.3 microns.
How long will the filter last?
Filter life varies from home to home and is based on several factors. Most homeowners find that the filter lasts for six to nine months.
Can I use another brand of filter in the Evolution air purifier?
No. The f ilter used in the Evolution air purifier is patented and uses a design that carries an electrical charge through the filter where select captured organisms are killed. Other filters do not have this technology and will not work in this unit. Some could even pose a fire or other safety hazard.
I don’t have a Bryant HVAC system. Can I still buy and install the Evolution air purifier?
Yes, the Evolution air purifier can be added to many heating and cooling systems from a variety of manufacturers.
How do I know when to change my filter?
If your Evolution air purifier is used in conjunction with the Bryant® Evolution™ System Control, the control will notify you when it is time to change the filter. Other thermostats may have a timer or reminder built in.
Does the Evolution air purifier make any sounds while operating?
No. Unlike traditional electronic air cleaners, the purifier creates no zapping noises.
Is there a benefit to using ultraviolet (UV) lamps in conjunction with the purifier?
Yes. Bryant® UV lamps installed at the coil and drain pan helps prevent the build- up of contaminants on your air coil.
How does the Evolution air purifier compare to a HEPA filter?
True HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are slightly more efficient at capturing the tiniest particles. However, HEPA filters do not have the Captures & Kills® technology of the Evolution air purifier. In addition, HEPA filters have a very high resistance for airflow (pressure drop), and therefore, generally incorporate an additional fan.
Does the Evolution air purifier capture coronavirus?
The Evolution air purifier uses a filter that meets Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) 15.** ASHRAE recommends MERV 13 or higher to limit transmission of viruses. While the SARS-CoV-2 virus itself is extremely small (about 0.1 microns in diameter), the larger respiratory droplets or aerosols that can transmit viruses are large enough to be captured when passing through enhanced air filtration.
How was it determined that the Evolutionair purifier captures and kills 99% of coronavirus trapped in the filter?
Our confidence with the performance of our Evolution air purifier capturing and killing the coronavirus trapped in the filter* is based upon third-party testing at the University of Colorado.
•Tests were conducted with a murine coronavirus that is closely related to the human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19
•The murine pathogen surrogate allowed testing to be completed safely***
Controlled environment tests showed that the Evolution air purifier rapidly inactivated 99% of coronavirus on its filter. To learn more about the science, visit Bryant.com/purifier
How does the Evolution air purifier capture coronavirus even though it’s smaller than the size that can be captured by the filter?
Viruses spread from infected individuals when they breathe, speak, sneeze or cough. The viral particles are contained in aerosols, the largest of which quickly settle on indoor surfaces, while the smaller ones can remain airborne.**** And while the SARS-CoV-2 virus itself is extremely small (about 0.1 microns in diameter)*****, the larger respiratory droplets or aerosols that can transmit viruses are large enough to be captured when passing through enhanced air filtration.
How much does the Evolution air purifier cost?
The cost depends on a number of factors. We encourage anybody interested in adding the Evolution air purifier to their home to contact their local HVAC contractor to secure price quotes.
Can you install the Evolution air purifier with non-Evolutiong as models?
Yes, the Evolution air purifier can be installed with any Bryant gas furnace or fan coil.
* The Evolution™ air purifier has demonstrated effectiveness against the murine coronavirus, based on third-party testing (2020) showing a >99% inactivation, which is a virus similar to the human novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19. Therefore, the Evolution air purifier can be expected to be effective against SARS-CoV-2 when used in accordance with its directions for use. Third-party testing (2012, 2007) also shows ≥99% inactivation for the type of virus that causes common colds, Streptococcus pyogenes and human influenza. Airborne particles must flow through your HVAC system and be trapped by the
Evolution filter to be inactivated at 99%. Learn how it works at Bryant.com/purifier.
** MERV is a filter efficiency standard ranging from 1 to 16 (higher MERV = higher efficiency). The Evolution® air purifier achieves a MERV 15 rating based on third-party testing (2012) showing 95% of particles size 1.0 to 3.0 microns captured and 85% of particles size 0.3 to 1.0 microns captured.
